Staff Sergeant James J. Sadecki US Air Force, Hickam AFB
Staff Sergeant James Sadecki is a superb non-commissioned Officer who is
a model of professionalism and leadership. He garnered a solve rate of
99 percent for criminal cases as the lead investigator. In a case
involving the theft of $1,400. in merchandise from the base exchange,
his unparalleled investigative skills and dedication to duty led to all
property being returned within 24 hours. Working closely with the
Federal Bureau of Investigation in the capturing of serial bank robber,
Edward D. Leiffer, he processed evidence found on Hickam Air force Base
that placed Leiffer on base shortly after his last bank robbery. He
identified four suspects who were responsible for the forgery of over
$15,000 in stolen checks. As first responder to a major traffic
accident involving an injured on-duty Security Forces (SF) member, he
quickly secured and protected the scene, administered first-aid to the
injured person and organized response by medical personnel - his efforts
were a key factor in preventing further injury to others.

has been in years. He supported the repatriation ceremony for the U.S.
Navy aircrew detained in China for 11 days; he ensured an event viewed
by the world went without incident. He was handpicked to perform
personal security duties during a visit by the Prime Minister of Japan,

served as an installation point of contact for the annual Troy Barboza
Law Enforcement torch run; his efforts resulted in over $41,600 being
raised for Hawaii's Special Olympic program. Staff Sergeant Sadecki
sets the standard for military citizenship, by volunteering countless
hours of his off-duty time to assist in the remodeling of the Hickam
Child Development Center - a top-notch effort. He is a key member of
Hickam's competitive pistol team; which took first place out of all
military teams in the 2001 National Police Week shooting competition and
