Law Enforcement Appreciation Luncheon 1999 Hawaii Individual Top Cops
There were 40 individual Top Cops awards representing men and women
from the Federal, State, Local County, and military law enforcement and
private security organizations.
Over 500 were in attendance and some of the dignitaries included,
Chief of Police Lee Donohue HPD and his two principal Deputies, Bill Clark
and Mike Carvalho, Chief of Police George Freitas, Kauai Police Department;
Myron R. Fuller, Director, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pacific Region;
Colonel Lou Traverzo, Commander, US Army Military Police Brigade-Hawaii;
Major Terri Kohler, Commander, US Army CID Hawaii; Colonel Thomas Sprague,
Acting Commander, Tripler Army Medical Center; Earl Anzai, Attorney
General; Stephen Alm, keynote speaker and United States Attorney for the
District of Hawaii; Peter Carlise, Prosecuting Attorney, City and County of
Honolulu. Also Rene Mansho, HJPA Member, City Council Member and leader in
song for the National Anthem and Hawaii Ponoi and great public servant
along with HJPA Member Mufi Hanneman, and John Henry Felix. Lt. General
Thomas M. Rienzi, US Army Retired was among the dignitaries. There were
many more, but unfortunately I do not have the entire list of names, and
have mentioned some that come to mind. The Hawaii Chapter, HJPA was
represented. Many HJPA Hall of Famers were there including Norman Osthoff,
Ron Jones, Al Streck, Chuck Horstman, Frank Steer, and yours truly.
A special note of thanks goes to Warren Ferreira, Danette Bolosan,
Randy Mack, Eugene Uemura, Jerald Dolak, Wesley Cambra, Melvin DeCosta and
Doreen Shiramizu for organizing this event so professionally. The Sheraton
Waikiki Hotel did their usual fantastic job as did the HPD Print Shop, Ben
Kusano and Harold Yano.
